SHELBY, N.C. (JAN. 20, 2011) – ABUSE PREVENTION COUNCIL TO WELCOME SOUTHERN (DIS)COMFORT 2011 TOUR

Event Co-Sponsored with Cleveland County Schools to Raise Awareness of Homelessness Issues

The Cleveland County Abuse Prevention Council (APC) will join Cleveland County Schools to welcome Southern (Dis)comfort to Shelby on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at First Baptist Church. Shelby represents one of 16 tour stops for Pat LaMarche, former VicePresidential Candidate and author of Left Out in America: The State of Homelessness in the United States, and Diane Nilan, founder of HEAR US, Inc. and film producer, who are raising awareness of local and national homelessness issues through the Southeastern states.

The two-part event will include screenings of “My Own Four Walls,” and “On The Edge,” documenting the real-life stories of women and children struggling to escape poverty, domestic violence, and homelessness. The films uniquely highlight the complex legal, political, and social difficulties impeding their ability to regain independence in rural communities.

Other event activities will include:
