SHELBY, N.C. (Feb. 3, 2011) – ABUSE PREVENTION COUNCIL RELEASES ‘TOP 10’ NEEDS LIST
45-Gallon Trash Bags, Paper Products, and Other Surprising Items in Immediate Need
The Cleveland County Abuse Prevention Council (APC) today released a list of the ‘Top 10’ items in immediate need by the organization’s shelter program, which provides safe, secure housing to victims of domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, and homelessness. Cleaning, household, and personal products top the list, highlighting the importance of home-like comforts to women and children in crisis.
“Our goal is to create an environment in which the women and children who reside here feel empowered to make progress toward independent living,” said Donna Sellers, APC Operations Manager. “For our residents, this means giving them not only a secure place to stay, but a clean and comfortable one.”
While popular donations, travel-size toiletries and clothing are not immediate needs. “Because we focus on providing home-like comforts, we prefer to give our residents full-sized toiletries, which provide a greater sense of security than travel-size items,” said Sellers.
APC does not have appropriate storage for clothing donations, and most residents’ clothing needs are met through relationships maintained with other local organizations. Donors wishing to benefit APC with clothing donations are encouraged to drop-off their donations—not at APC—but at UA Thrift, 1316 S. Lafayette Street, or The Salvation Army, 305 N. Lafayette Street.
Following, in no particular order, is APC’s ‘Top 10’ items in immediate need:
- 45-gallon trash bags
- Bathroom cleaner
- Paper towels
- Toilet paper
- Breakfast meats
- New underwear (Women’s Sizes 6 to 10)
