APC Volunteers Receive Presidential Recognition at Volunteer Celebration Event

Six volunteers at the Cleveland County Abuse Prevention Council (APC) received Presidential recognition for volunteering more than 100 hours each in 2010. APC honored recipients of the President’s Volunteer Service Award at its annual Volunteer Celebration Event, on April 21 at Shagreen Nursery and Arboretum in Shelby.

Established in 2003, the award is given by the President of the United States and honors individuals, families, and groups who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer service over the course of 12 months. As a Certifying Organization of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, APC can nominate potential recipients and distribute the Award to those who meet or exceed criteria.

“APC is extremely proud to join the President of the United States in recognizing the volunteers who consistently take the time to make a difference in the lives of others,” said Jenny Reed, APC Volunteer Coordinator. “We are proud to honor six outstanding individuals who are answering the call to service with this Award.”

The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes volunteers serving at least 100 hours in a 12-month period, with Award levels of Bronze, Silver, or Gold. In addition, a President’s Call to Service Award acknowledges individuals volunteering more than 4,000 hours during their lifetime.

In 2010, more than 50 individuals and organizations volunteered nearly 5,000 hours at APC.

Sponsors of the Volunteer Celebration Event included Baskets from the Heart, Chick-Fil-A, Keystone Confections, McNeilly Photography, Mike’s Flowers and Gifts, and Shagreen Nursery and Arboretum.
